We finish up every issue with ‘Artist Spotlight’ a mini-interview series featured on Beyond the Paint where we share insider interviews with our favourite nail professionals and creators.
FEBRUARY AT A GLANCE
Happy February BSG Squad! Round of applause because we’ve made it through the first month of 2022👏. Hopefully like us, you are all fully recovered, recharged and are back in full swing to take on the rest of the year.
February is a month full of celebrations! From celebrating the lunar calendar’s first new moon for Lunar New Year; to love on Valentine’s Day, to loved ones on Family Day, to one of the most important celebrations of recognition: Black History Month. We welcome February as the time to reflect on and acknowledge the impact & contributions the Black Communities have had (and continue to have) on our country.
POINTS FOR DONATION X BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In celebration of Black History Month, we will be reducing the number of points needed to make a donation through our Points for Donation initiative.
From 02.01.22 through 02.28.22 make a donation to the National CARES Mentoring Movement for only 50 points instead of 100 points.
WHATS IS POINTS FOR DONATION?
Points For Donation (PFD) is a redeemable reward in the BSG Rewards Program that was first introduced last February 2021 for Black History Month. This reward is aimed to highlight and support organizations that empower and elevate Black Communities. PFD allows our customers to redeem their points as a charitable donation.
Every PFD Reward redeemed turns into a $5 donation + an extra $1 from BSG to the featured organization that changes semi-annually.
For a limited time: 50 Points (Reg. 100 points) = $5 Donation + $1 from BSG
ABOUT NATIONAL CARES MENTORING MOVEMENT
The National CARES Mentoring Movement is our current featured organization for Points for Donation.
The National CARES Mentoring Movement was founded in 2006 and is a community-mobilization initiative dedicated to secure, heal, uplift and transform the lives of Black children and families living in under-served communities.
They achieve this through inspiring, recruiting and mobilizing masses of caring Black men and women to mentor, nourish, challenge and champion impoverished Black children in 58 U.S cities, helping them to shift their consciousness so they can become self-sufficient and transform their lives, their households and their communities.
THE NEW BSG REWARDS PROGRAM
Starting on February 7th, 2022, we are introducing the all-new BSG Rewards Program (formerly known as The BSG Squad Rewards Program). After previewing the changes last month, we have taken into consideration of our customer’s feedback and have revamped the new reward chart.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: DENISE (@DENISENAILS_YEG) 
On this month’s Artist Spotlight, we catch up with the always lovely BSG Brand Ambassador Denise of @denisenails_yeg. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Denise either through a workshop she’s hosted, or a BSG tradeshow that she has been a part of, or even just as a client of hers, you will know how sweet and positive this Edmonton based nail tech is!
May you introduce yourself to our readers and followers! Let us know your name, where you are based, and how & why you got into the nail industry?
"My name is Denise Nguyen, my Instagram name is @denisenails_yeg and I’m from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Six years ago, I had an opportunity to work at a nail salon, at that time I was only doing manicure and pedicure then one day my boss gave me a chance to do a fill and I did it! At that moment, she told me how wonderful of a job I did for my first time and that is how I knew I could do it. She made me feel so confident and helped me believe in myself, she was very supportive. I felt so lucky to have a person like her ❤️"
Your nail art work is incredible, literally picture perfect every single time! What is your tip for learning how to get better at doing nails?
"I try my best every day to be competitive with myself. Sometimes yes, I’m stressed but once I complete the work, I feel so satisfied with what I’ve accomplished. I always try to learn and improve myself and share what make me better in my job."
Could you tell us what is your most favourite or best memory you have during your nail career?
"My most favourite moment during my nails career is the first fill I ever did- I felt so proud of myself (I believed my boss made me feel this way🥰). Other favourite moment is the first nail set I put on Instagram when I opened an account 😉 and the time I had a chance to join with Helen @helennails_yeg and Shangri-La Nails YEG team – it was so exciting."
Could you should us your favourite nail look you've done using BSG colours?
"It’s hard to say what is my favourite nails look using BSG because they are all my all-time favourites 🥰 but let me show you some of my most favourites..."

"Before the pandemic I was always so excited to get away [travel] and do events with Bio Seaweed Gel- I would have a chance to learn, grow and experience with the BSG Squad. But for now, I just try to keep everything in my control and wait till everything gets better and will ask to experience more at the event with the BSG team. I miss everyone ❤️❤️❤️"

Hmmmmm. I can’t even remember what my guess was but that name is pretty awesome. Can hardly wait to see the colors revealed. It was cool reading about Denise, I met her in Florida at Premiere while we worked the BSG Booth. She’s such a sweetheart.
